THE City Government of Angeles is set to open the first-ever home for homeless senior citizens.

Called "Bale Pusu," the shelter will accommodate an initial 12 senior citizens.

IC Calaguas, chief adviser and tactician of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel conducted an ocular inspection at Bale Pusu in Barangay Sta. Teresita on September 8, 2021.

They were joined by Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles and Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer Irish Bonus-Llego.

Calaguas said the center will be temporary since another building will be constructed that can house about 40 homeless senior citizens.

"The initial plan is to just forge an agreement with the existing home for the aged, but due to difficulties in referrals and limited bed capacity, Mayor Lazatin came up with the solution of establishing the city's home for the aged, considering that the city has enough budget," Calaguas shared.

"Mayor Lazatin said it is about time to have the city's own home for the aged," she added.

Calaguas and Manuel have been helping homeless senior citizens, referring them to institutions in their capacity.

They said Bale Pusu is a welcome development for the city, which ensures that no senior citizen will stay on the streets.
