Uprooted tree causes power outage in Mandaue City

A PORTION of Sitio Lourdes, Barangay Jagobiao experienced a power interruption after a Gmelina tree was uprooted due to the gusty wind and heavy rain on Monday evening, September 13, 2021.

The operations head of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Felix Suico Jr., said that around 10 p.m., they received an emergency call from the Jagobiao Barangay Hall reporting an uprooted tree in their barangay.

Suico said the Gmelina tree was blocking the way and the vehicles or residents had difficulty passing through the road.

Aside from that, he said the fallen tree snagged the electrical wires and communication wires, which caused the connection interruption in the area.

Since the electrical wires are live wires, Suico said they immediately informed Visayan Electric about the incident.

It took the disaster team an hour to remove the tree and clear the alleyway for it to be passable for vehicles and residents.

With the onset of the rainy season, Suico urged the residents and the barangay personnel to be vigilant about any untoward incidents that may happen in their areas, such as soil erosion, landslides, uprooting of trees, flooding, and others.

Suico urged Mandaue City residents to call their hotline numbers 383-1658, 09454330054, or 09384765461 if any of these incidents occurred.(KFD)
