LOCAL government units (LGUs) in the province of Cebu have resorted to creative ways of enticing their residents to get jabbed.

The LGUs have implemented incentivized vaccination programs to increase the number of residents vaccinated against Covid-19.

In the town of Borbon, northern Cebu, all senior citizens who will have themselves fully vaccinated will get five kilos of rice, canned goods and free transportation to the vaccination site.

Borbon Mayor Noel Dotillos expects that soon, 100 percent of the town’s senior citizens will show up for vaccination due to the food incentives.

Dotillos told SunStar Cebu that P100,000 was initially spent for the incentives, which started in June 2021 and is ongoing until today.

Dotillos said while more elderly residents now want to avail of the Covid-19 vaccines in Borbon after the food incentive program was launched, the town’s vaccination program still highly depends on vaccine supplies allotted by the Department of Health (DOH).

As of Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, around 98 percent or 293 individuals belonging to the A1 category (medical frontliners) were fully vaccinated in Borbon, while 42 percent or 1,069 individuals from the A2 category (senior citizens) and 34 percent or 295 residents from the A3 category (people with comorbidities) were fully vaccinated.

A total of 1,070 from the A4 category were also fully vaccinated against Covid-19, according to Dotillos.

The A4 priority group is composed of those working in sectors that have “high levels of interaction with or exposure to the public” and economic sectors that are needed to ensure security, consumers and worker safety. Borbon’s total population is estimated at 39,000.

The town logged a total of 21 active cases, two deaths and 117 total recoveries.

Borbon has 19 barangay isolation facilities aside from two isolation facilities run by the municipal government.

Carcar

In southern Cebu, the City of Carcar has been giving away raffle prizes to walk-in eligible residents beginning Sept 9.

The raffle prizes consist of one sack of rice for the grand prize winner, 25 kilos of rice for two winners, and food packs for 50 winners.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Mercy Apura said the incentives will entice more constituents to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Consolacion

Meanwhile, residents of Consolacion town who cannot go to the vaccination center during daytime can have themselves vaccinated at night after the town launched “Bakuna Nights” on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at the Consolacion Covered Court.

Mayor Johanes “Joyjoy” Alegado said “Bakuna Nights” will be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.

Alegado also initiated an online raffle promo called “Bida Bakunado” where 80 residents were given 25 kilos of rice each, while five winners received gift checks worth P500.

Alegado promised more big prizes await the vaccinees such as appliances and refrigerators among others.

Consolacion also has a mobile vaccination service which goes around barangays to vaccinate those who are unable to go to the vaccination centers.

SM City Consolacion also continues to accommodate vaccinees.

As of Sept 10, 60,046 residents of Consolacion had been vaccinated. Of the number, 28,963 received their two complete doses.

Pinamungajan

In southwest Cebu, Mayor Glenn Baricuatro of Pinamungajan said there are still residents who are vaccine-hesitant as of this time.

“Pareha gihapon sa tibuok Sugbo nga dunay mga tawo nga motuo’g duwende pero di motuo og bakuna (It’s the same in the entire Cebu. There are people who believe in dwarves but don’t believe in vaccines),” Baricuatro lamented.

Baricuatro said that while most of his constituents want to be vaccinated, the Municipality’s vaccination drive depends on the supplies given by the DOH.

Baricuatro said as of August, more than 2,000 residents were fully vaccinated while more than 5,000 received their first jab.

Pinamungajan has a population of about 73,000.

Baricuatro said vaccination in the municipality is conducted every day.
