PNP to focus on enforcement of granular lockdowns

POLICE will no longer conduct checkpoints in Metro Manila as they will focus on the implementation of granular lockdowns under the new alert level system aimed at controlling transmission of the infectious coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, said they were coordinating with the concerned local government units to ensure proper enforcement of the new guidelines effective September 16.

“We are continuously coordinating with the LGUs in Metro Manila for proper enforcement of these rules — from the identification of areas that would be placed under lockdown up to the distribution of assistance to the affected residents,” he said.

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, chairman of Metro Manila Council, said in a Laging Handa briefing that a household or an entire floor of a condominium building would be placed under a 14-day granular lockdown if at least one Covid-19 case is confirmed.

If there are at least two confirmed cases, a street, sitio or barangay would be placed on lockdown.

"Katulad po sa isang floor ng isang condominium... basta magkaroon lang po ng isa pong case doon, ‘yong mismong isang floor na ‘yon ay puwede na po nating i-lock down po ‘yan," he said.

"Isang bahay, puwede po nating i-lock down basta magkaroon lang po ng isang case po sa isang bahay. Kapag po sa kalsada, sa isang sitio po, mag-dalawa lang po ng case doon ay puwede na po nating magkaroon ng lockdown po d’yan para po ma-implement din," he added.

All residents in the locked down area will undergo testing for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. Food packs will be distributed. There will be no cash assistance. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
