NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is anticipating a record-breaking number of cases of coronavirus disease (Covid) in Negros Occidental.

Lacson said the cases may go higher than the highest recorded number of active cases in March 2021.

He said the number of new active cases daily is going triple-digit.

Lacson reminded Negrenses to protect themselves, especially by getting vaccinated because fully inoculated individuals are more protected than those who are not.

Lacson said the 50-bed capacity Valeriano District Hospital in Himamaylan City has been designated to cater to Covid-19 patients in addition to Valladolid District Hospital and Cadiz City District Hospital.

He said they are also looking forward to the completion of the expansion of Cadiz District Hospital for an additional 70 beds.

"What is happening in Manila is already happening in the province where our hospitals have reached full capacity," he said, stressing that "this is not a joke anymore, we have to protect ourselves."
