AROUND 50 workers of Fooda Saversmart Mango staged a protest against the management of the supermarket on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Juliet Doverte, leader of the Fooda Saversmart Workers ALU Union, said they are holding a strike to prompt the management to withdraw the notice of closure from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

"Di mi motuo nga nag financial losses sila. Sa panahon sa pandemic o sa dili pa pandemic, dako kay silag halin tungod kay ilang baligya essential (We don't believe they incurred financial losses. During the pandemic or even before, they have huge revenues because they sell essential goods)," Doverte said in a live interview with Superbalita Cebu.

Doverte said the management hired new employees despite announcing a permanent closure.

Fooda Savers Mart Corp., through the DOLE’s Establishment Report System (ERS), submitted a permanent closure report on August 23, 2021, affecting 243 workers.

"Ang mga bag-o eight hours, niya ang mga daan four hours, asa ang hustisya ana? Ang ubang empleyado, floating, wala pa kabalik og duty (The new hires are made to go on duty for eight hours while the old ones only for four hours? Where's the justice in that? Some employees remain in floating status and haven't come back to work yet)," she said. (JOB)
