Hotels see uptick in staycation bookings

THE Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) has noted an uptick in the bookings for staycation under general community quarantine.

“Our staycation is starting to pick up but not like before when people were really going out. But it’s not yet to the level during the time under modified general community quarantine,” HRRAC president Alfred Reyes told SunStar Cebu.

Reyes noted there are already inquiries from vaccinated people desiring to go out for staycations. The group expects room bookings to increase leading to the holiday season.

But to achieve this, the HRRAC official said vaccination is one of the key factors to recovery.

Reyes advised establishments to push for a 100 percent vaccination of their employees to bolster consumer confidence.

As of Sept. 15, 2021, a total of 782,526 have been fully vaccinated in the entire island of Cebu.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Central Visayas is monitoring 63 properties that are operating as multiple-use and full quarantine facilities in Cebu.

Of the total, 34 properties operate as multiple-use (leisure and quarantine) facilities while 29 operate as full quarantine facilities.

A multi-use property can accommodate both leisure travelers and guests who need to undergo the mandatory quarantine.

According to Riza Macaibay, DOT 7 tourism operations officer and head of hotel quarantine operations, all 63 properties have converted their operations to accommodate returning overseas Filipinos who need to undergo the mandatory quarantine upon arrival. (JOB)
