VEHICLES coming from and going to the southern portion of Bacolod were temporarily rerouted Friday, September 17, 2021, to Roxas Street and Magsaysay Avenue after a 14-wheeler truck hit the cable wires along Araneta Highway in Barangay Singcang-Airport in the city.

The truck driven by Jose Selfredo Guardiano, 49, of Barangay Taculing, carrying a transformer was heading south of Araneta Street around 2:30 a.m. when it snagged on the wires upon reaching the area near the Gaisano Grand Mall, Major Joery Puerto, chief of Police Station 8, said.

This caused the three posts owned by the PLDT and Globe Telecom to fall in the middle of the road, he said.

Puerto said the Bacolod Traffic Management Office (BTAO) along with the personnel of Police Station 8, immediately went to the area and closed it for traffic.

The repair of the damaged cables and electrical posts took at least 10 hours.

Puerto said Guardinao driver’s license was confiscated and his truck was impounded by BTAO.

Guardiano, who will be charged for violation of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, will meet with the representatives of PLDT and Globe today, September 18.

Aside from the complaint to be filed by the telecommunications companies, Puerto said that BTAO will also file charges for violation of City Ordinance 338 or the Comprehensive Traffic Ordinance against the driver of the truck.

Puerto reminded drivers of similar vehicles not to pass on the secondary roads to avoid similar incidents.
