THE Cebu City Government formally opened the first three floors of the new Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 18, 2021.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama and other city officials formally opened the hospital’s first three floors, which can accommodate 200 beds.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, whose speech was read by City Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, said the opening of the newly constructed CCMC is part of his administration’s promise to provide free hospitalization for his constituents.
With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting Cebu, CCMC’s presence was needed more than ever, Labella added.
In July, the City Council approved a P1 billion allocation in its first supplemental budget for the completion of the seventh to 10th floors of the hospital.
Yvonne Cania, CCMC administrator, said with the three floors now open, their employees will start cleaning their respective departments and transferring all of their equipment from their temporary site across the road on Sunday, Sept. 19.
By Monday, they will start transferring their non-Covid patients.
Cania said the new CCMC can provide X-ray, computed tomography scan (CT Scan) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services.
She added that they will also have more Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds at the new CCMC compared to their previous facility.
At their previous facility, they had six ICU beds, said Cania. (PAC , JKV)
