A history professor and an archaeologist will talk about the ancient weapons in the Visayas in a forum honoring chief Dagami, warrior of Gabi (Cordova, Cebu).

Ateneo de Zamboanga professor, Dr. Felice Noelle Rodriquez will tackle details of the ancient Visayan warriors’ weapons such as those used in the 1521 Battle of Mactan and in the 1565 resistance against Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.

Archaeologist and University of San Carlos professor Dr. Jobers Reynes Bersales will present archaeological finds in Cebu from the period of the Iron Age or more than 2000 years ago.

The blended forum this September 22, 3pm, is in celebration of the 5th anniversary of Palm Grass The Cebu Heritage Hotel’s Hardin Dagami roofdeck restaurant, named in honor of Dagami, the chief of Gabi who led a resistance against the Spanish occupation of Cebu in 1565.

This event will also highlight a Warrior Dagami Cosplay Contest, where cosplayers will dress and pose for battle like the fierce Warrior Dagami, the chief of Gabi.

A Cebuano blacksmith (panday sa pinuti) will share his experience of this centuries-old craft of bolo-making.

During the celebration, there will be games such as tuba-drinking contest, native pizza eating contest, and Mr. & Ms. Brayt (Trivia Quiz).

The blended event will be held at Hardin Dagami of Palm Grass Hotel. It will be livestreamed through the official Facebook page of Palm Grass The Cebu Heritage Hotel and its event partners: National Historical Commission of the Philippines, National Quincentennial Committee, University of San Carlos-Museum, USC Department of Anthropology, Sociology and History, Museo Sugbo, Diyandi Heritage Center, SOAN2020 and Central Visayas Association of Museums.
