PH beats Vietnam in AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers

The Philippines scored two timely goals near the end of the match to walk away with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Nepal in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 qualifiers last Sept. 18, 2021, at the JAR Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Malditas found themselves down early on after conceding a goal by Nepalese midfielder Bimala Chaudhary in the 10th minute.

Despite being down early, the Philippines continued to attack and the squad’s persistence paid off as it scored back-to-back goals near the end of the match.

Midfielder Tahnai Annis, who’s returning to the team after three years, scored the equalizer in the 90th minute with a goal inside the box from a cross pass by newcomer Chandler McDaniel.

Midfielder Camille Wilson hit the back of the net in the second minute of extra time to give the Philippines the victory and the crucial three points to lead Group F.

Malditas head coach Marlon Maro was impressed with the performance of the team, especially the new players.

“The new players played well and initiated the first goal,” Maro said in a report posted on the official Philippine Football Federation website. “Our adjustments in the second half resulted in us scoring in the last five minutes.”

The Philippines faces Hong Kong next on Friday.
