THE City Government of Bacolod will conduct a free vaccination drive for pregnant women who are in their second or third trimester, or three months and above of their pregnancy, and breastfeeding mothers at Ayala Malls Capitol Central on September 22 and 30, 2021.

The inoculation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will be spearheaded by the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), Covid-19 Vaccination Council and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society-Negros Occidental Chapter, a statement from the City Government said.

It added that interested pregnant women, as well as breastfeeding mothers, may bring their medical certificate from their obstetrician-gynecologist, ultrasound result and mother’s book from the health center.

Based on a World Health Organization report, the benefits of the vaccine may be greatest for pregnant women at highest risk from Covid-19 such as frontline health workers, people living in areas of high transmission, and those with health conditions like hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes that add to their risk of acquiring severe disease.

Several pregnant women in Bacolod have already been vaccinated.

"They have been proactively coming to our vaccination centers, and many have shown interest," the EOC-TF said.

The City’s vaccination drive prioritizes expectant mothers.

EOC records showed on September 5, an unvaccinated woman who was seven months pregnant died of Covid-19.

She started experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, colds, sore throat and difficulty in breathing as early as August 27 but refused to see a doctor.

The EOC-TF urged pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers to have themselves vaccinated, as they are more likely to experience severe illness due to Covid-19.

EOC-TF said Bacolod has been proactively offering several flexible methods to get Covid-19 jabs.

These included the VAX-I mobile vaccination drive which mobilizes five buses around the city as well as personnel for onsite visits, as well as barangay and cluster vaccination.

The City has also put up mall-based vaccination sites at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, City Malls Goldenfield and Mandalagan, Gaisano City, Robinsons Place and SM City.

Graveyard Shift Vaccination Drive for graveyard or night-duty business process outsourcing workers, which is one of its kind in the country, was also launched along with two drive-thru vaccination sites at Ayala Malls Capitol Central and 24/7 vaccination drive at Jollibee Gatuslao and Jollibee East.
