OVER two million coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine doses manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech arrived in the country on Sunday evening, September 19, 2021.
The National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 said Monday, September 20, the vaccine doses, which arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, were donated by the United States (US) government through the Covax facility.
This has brought the country’s Covid-19 vaccine stockpile to 64,380,400.
World Health Organization (WHO) country representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe said that in the coming weeks, at least 10 million Pfizer vaccines will arrive in the country through Covax.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said the latest delivery will be deployed to priority areas, particularly in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Western and Central Visayas, Davao and Zamboanga Peninsula.
On Sunday, Department of Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said 18.2 million people in the Philippines were fully vaccinated, while 22.6 million received their first dose. (SunStar Philippines)
