THE Pinamungajan Municipal Government had distributed P3,000 worth of financial assistance to each of the town’s 2,667 indigent senior citizens on September 16 to 17, 2021.
The social pension covered the month of July to December 2021.
Mayor Glenn Baricuatro, in a text message, told SunStar Cebu that these financial assistance for social pensioners were funded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
During the distribution in 26 barangays' gymnasium, officials assured that health protocols were properly observed by the pensioners.
Baricuatro said pensioners who are bedridden have received their cash assistance through house-to-house distribution.
He said another 50 pensioners, funded by the Municipal Government, will receive P3,000 in the first week of October.
These 50 pensioners were among the last batch of seniors to benefit from the financial assistance, so the Municipal Government funded their social pension, Baricuatro added.
Pinamungajan has a total of 2,717 pensioners in town.
In a Facebook post, Pinamungajan clarified that not all senior citizens, but only those indigents were qualified for the social pension. They were listed by the DSWD-Central Visayas under Senior Citizens Act 9994.
Meanwhile, as of September 20, Pinamungajan has logged a total of 539 Covid-19 case, of which 43 are active, 468 have recovered and 28 have died. (MVE)
