ANCIENT Greeks, while walking at night placed lanterns on their sandals. That way it illuminated their paths for about three feet. They could only see three feet in the swarming darkness. Each step brought light. But it was sufficient for the moment and for the step.
Today, we are in darkness and we do not know what lies ahead. We cannot even see tomorrow. We barely see three feet and it can be overwhelming. Being literally locked down for over a year and a half does something to your physical, emotional, psychological health. It can be terrifying. Losing light brings only darkness. And there is not much we can do nowadays. We have been essentially left to fend for ourselves. Evil in all its forms is rampaging. Greed, corruption, arrogance, hatred. The demons are ravaging and tearing us to pieces. And the only thing we have is our sandals with our lantern.
What is your light nowadays? What stops you from screaming in the darkness? Most of us cling to God because His mercies are sure and His Light never flickers. And yet holding on to God is an act of faith and when we look around, when we see what we see and hear what we hear, faith can be challenging. Now more than ever, faith is a steep climb.
We pray for strength because it is strength we need. We pray for guidance because are floundering and drifting in the deep waters. We pray for sanity because the world has exploded in absurdity.
While writing this a former student who is now a doctor forwarded me a picture of some men who were smoking. They were close to one another with shields and masks down. And we wonder why there is a surge. The sad truth is we will never learn. That student asked me if this was God’s way of making us understand that we are just mortals? I told him heeding and understanding are two different things. The sad truth is sadly true. Because of stupidity, arrogance and insanity we will not get out of this. We do not listen, we do not want to listen and we will never listen. That is our curse.
If we are left on our own we will be exterminated. I sincerely believe that people will only listen if Jesus comes down from the heavens or a swarm of UFOS comes down swooping. Otherwise we shall have all those idiots smoking and puffing away and bringing whatever they get to their families. We are like brats. We need to be forced to do things. We need to be threatened and perhaps even beaten. That is how absurd we are.
