ABOUT 5,000 doses of the Russian Gamaleya Sputnik Covid-19 vaccines will be delivered to Cebu City within this month (September), Acting Mayor Michael Rama assured Wednesday, September 22.

He said National Task Force for Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez told him that the delivery will be done this month, so Rama appealed to those who already got their first dose of the vaccine to just wait.

“I was able to talk to Secretary Galvez and it is really coming... then I talked to (Dr. Mary Jean) Loreche. But definitely, we're talking about I think 5,000 will be coming but as to specific date, I cannot identify yet, but it's really coming,” Rama said.

He said he will make an official announcement once supplies arrive, so that Cebu City residents who already had their first jab of the Sputnik vaccine will be able to get their second dose.

In July, about 300 ampules of Sputnik Covid-19 vaccines were given to individuals under the A1 to A3 priority groups in Cebu City.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC), earlier advised those who received their first dose of the Sputnik vaccine to wait for the same brand, since vacinees can still receive their second dose even beyond the interval period or up to three months.

"Yung mga nabigyan ng Gamaleya o Sputnik, wala pa po yung inyong for second dose. Wag po kayong mag-alala kung due na po ang inyong second dose. You can still receive your second dose beyond your schedule interval day. Mahahabol po natin yan within three months, pero di po natin paabutin ng three months," Loreche said. (MVE)
