Ang igsuong babaye ni Marilyn nakoronahan usab niadto nga “Miss Mandaue 1978.” Ang long-time girlfriend sa iyang anak mao say paborito karon nga modaug sa nagpadayong Miss Universe Philippines 2021 pageant. What was your first beauty title?
The “Miss Les Pioneer `82” in Mandaue City. I was only 15 then. Then two years later, I also won Miss Mandaue first runner-up. My life had been into pageants until I graduated college from USJ-R with Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Banking and Finance in 1986.
What’s your most memorable pageant title?
“Miss Hiyas Ng Silangan Pilipinas” in Manila in 1984. It was one of the most prestigious pageants during our time with some 60 candidates vying for the title.
What about your kids?
No, they’re not into pageants. My daughter Marie Kimberly, 29, now resides in Sydney, Australia and works as an assistant accountant in Patterson Building Group. While my son Karl Vincent, 28, is a businessman and owns KDA Poultry Farm in Tuburan, Cebu. My husband and I are into rental business. We own the Apartelle de Arcenas in Kasambagan, Cebu City.
So, what advice did you give to Karl’s girlfriend, Steffi, who has been one of the frontrunners in the ongoing Miss Universe Philippines 2021 pageant?
Yeah, I did advise Steff with a lot of things, like she should not expect too much and just simply show them what you’ve got. I also advised her not to be affected with bashers since she could not always please everyone. Just stay humble, kind, friendly, obedient to rules and above all, pray for guidance, wisdom, health and strength and to be confidently beautiful!
How long they’ve been together?
8 years and still counting. My son Karl said that if they’ll be on the same page already and Steff is done with her pageantry, then that’s the time they will have their own family.
Do people ever mistakenly think you and Steffi are sisters?
Yeah, kadaghan na. Haha... Of course, I’m flattered. People say I don’t look like my age. I’m 55 and this I credit it all to Him. Thank God! I was able to maintain my ideal weight maybe because I’m blessed to have good genes. I eat a lot actually except for rice. I also don’t drink soda.
What’s your beauty routine?
It starts with a clean face before bed, moisturize and I load up myself with water during the day. Fruits and low impact exercises are factors that helped me maintain my body and youthfulness. I always wear a smile to bring positivity as it radiates in your beauty.
How do you describe Steffi?
A very bubbly person, simple, down to earth, friendly and so enterprising. She’s a strong contender for the Miss U and I’m praying, and fingers crossed, she can slay it.
