Comelec prepares for COC filing next week

(From Comelec)

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu City is asking the City Government to close a portion of Osmeña Blvd. from October 1 to 8, 2021, for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC).

"Nangita pa ta og permission or authority from the local government of Cebu (City) to hopefully ma-approve nila kay para man sa seguridad sad," said Comelec Cebu City North District Election Officer Chaunsey Boholst

Boholst said they recommended to Cebu City the closure of Osmeña Blvd., specifically the one near to their office during the week long COC filing.

Comelec will also set up tents near the office for candidates waiting there for turn to file their COC and the media covering the event.

The Comelec with the Cebu City Police Office and other law enforcement agencies and of Cebu City, such as the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, met on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, to discuss the preparations for the COC filing.

He said the number of people allowed inside the Comelec office to file their COC will be limited at a time, though the other members of the party can come to the waiting area at once.

The party members can also utilize the backdrop the Comelec will put up outside for picture taking purposes, he said.

"We discourage them to bring their own supporters kay mahitabo man gud nga gubot man gud, daghan kayng mga tawo. Gani dili kasulod ang mga supporters sa barriers," he said.

He said they also discourage the candidates to bring escorts.

Boholst said they do not require candidates to present negative swab test results or Covid-19 vaccination cards, though they encourage candidates to be vaccinated. (WBS)
