Duno faces KO artist Perez

ROMERO Duno faces heavy-handed journeyman Jonathan Perez in an eight-round fight today, Sept. 25, 2021, at the Manuel Artime Community Center in Miami, Florida.

The 25-year-old Duno tipped the scales at 135.6 pounds, while Perez weighed-in two pounds lighter at 133.4 pounds.

Duno is slowly regaining his confidence after a first round knockout loss to American rising star Ryan Garcia in 2019. Since his loss to Garcia, Duno won back-to-back fights against Angelito Merin and Ramon Esperanza.

Duno’s ascent in the lightweight division started with a second round knockout upset over Christian Gonzales in Los Angeles, California. He won his next eight fights, but he got derailed after his loss to Garcia.

The 34-year-old Perez should give Duno a good sweat and should be a good gauge on what level Duno is at right now.

Even though Perez lost his last four bouts, he has faced some elite names. He has fought the likes of Christian Mijares, Alejandro Hernandez, Eric Ortiz, Martin Castillo, Jose Lopez, Abner Mares and Jezzrel Corrales.

Perez bowed down to Matt Conway via a fourth round stoppage in an International Boxing Association Inter-Continental super featherweight fight last June 4, 2021.

Duno is 23-2 with 18 knockouts, while Perez is 38-27 with 30 knockouts.

Duno was ranked as high as No. 4 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 15 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) in 2019. He dropped out of the world rankings after his loss to Garcia.
