Loreche:Vaccine supplies for Metro Cebu 'enough'

THE Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) has announced that a total of 203,510 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 are available in the vaccine storage of local government units (LGUs) in Metro Cebu.

According to data from the VVOC’s daily briefer, of the 203,510 doses of different vaccine brands, 30,428 was allocated for the first dose while 173,082 doses for the second dose.

VVOC spokesperson Mary Jean Loreche said based on their inventory that includes jab performance, Metro Cebu LGUs still have enough supply of vaccines to be administered in their respective areas.

Following are the available vaccines for first dose: Cebu City (4,616), Mandaue City (5,444), Lapu-Lapu City (3,920), Talisay City (2,541), Naga City (5,227), Minglanilla town (2,132), Consolacion town (5,047), and Cordova town (1,501).

While the following vaccines are intended for second doses: Cebu City (70,009), Mandaue City (24,762), Lapu-Lapu City (28,143), Talisay City (15,959), Naga City (10,054), Minglanilla town (11,033), Consolacion town (9,976), and Cordova town (3,146).

Loreche said the data does not include the recent allocation of Gamaleya’s Sputnik V for the second dose as well as the first dose allocation of Pfizer this week.

Loreche said the VVOC’s primary role is to manage the vaccination allocation of each LGU depending on the target vaccinees and the number of supplies left.

She cited Cordova as an example which has 1,501 vaccines intended for first dose but with a target of over 2,000 vaccinees.

With this, Loreche said they will borrow from LGUs that have more vaccine supplies than their target vaccinees. The borrowed number of doses will be returned once another set of vaccine allocations arrives.

Loreche said if an LGU has difficulty in using up their vaccine supplies, its allocation in the next delivery will be distributed to other LGUs that can roll out the vaccines faster.

Safe vaccines

Loreche said a total of 202 vaccine doses went to waste in Cebu from the following areas: Cebu City (86), Cebu Province (74), Lapu-Lapu City (3) and Mandaue City (1) in the early months of the vaccine rollout.

Loreche said the most common reason for the recorded wastage was due to the incomplete vaccine doses in multi-dose vials such as when a good for 10-doses-vial could only aspirate six doses.

Loreche added that when particles are seen floating in the vaccine, this will be included in the wastage.

Loreche said the VVOC has instituted quality control measures and protocols to ensure that all vaccines are safe.

Meanwhile, Cebu City reports that 265,612 individuals have been fully vaccinated in the city while 335,469 have been given their first dose.

A total of 706,963 individuals in Cebu City have registered in Pabakunata.com, the City’s online vaccination portal.

Acting Mayor Michael Rama said the Cebu City Government in coordination with the private sector will come up with incentives for the vaccinated. (PAC)
