World Dumpling Day: 6 delicious dumplings in Cebu

There’s something profound about dumplings. On one hand, they look uncomplicated and require minimal ingredients. On the other hand, making and perfecting them takes great skill and practice. Dumplings are a time-honored food item in Asian cuisine and take many iterations across the world—there’s even a global holiday to celebrate it.

If you’re craving some but don’t know where to order, we have some suggestions.

Fung’s Noodle House

This place has an extensive menu, but loyal patrons rave about one dish in particular: the xiao long bao. Flavorful soup and chunky filling held together by perfectly thin dough, Fung’s does the quintessential soup dumpling justice. Fung’s Noodle House is located in SSY Business Center, Salinas Drive, Lahug.

Ramen Yushoken

One look at this ramen joint’s gyoza and you can already tell it’s made with great precision and handiwork. The moist filling is cradled by beautifully folded dough that’s almost too pretty to eat. Ramen Yushoken is located in Oakridge Business Park, A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City.

Master Po

The Spinach Pork Dumplings from The Ching Palace’s sister restaurant are a must-try. Plump spinach and pork filling is tucked in a barely-there wrapper and then drizzled with a light soy sauce. Master Po is located in Plaza Nouvelle, Benedicto Street, Cebu City.

CookPub

Korea take’s on the dumpling is slightly different with the addition of vermicelli noodles aside from chopped vegetables and ground meat. At CookPub, you can get it either steamed or fried. CookPub has branches in Island Central Mactan and 88th Avenue in Banilad, Cebu City.

Tin Gow

Helmed by Chef Low, Waterfront Cebu’s Chinese restaurant won Best Dim Sum in 2020’s Best of Cebu and for good reason. Tin Gow does Chinese cuisine right with authentic flavors and quality ingredients. A dim sum buffet with all the dumplings you can eat is available for lunch daily.

Queen Bao PH

Aside from the classic pork, Queen Bao also has a sweet version of the classic xiao long bao. The dessert dumplings are available in two flavors: Double Chocolate Melt and Ube Halaya Cheese Melt. These are available frozen and ready to steam at home. Message its Facebook page to order.
