Philippines qualifies for AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India

THE Philippines qualified for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India in 2022 after finishing at the top of Group F.

The Malditas got all six points in Group F after a 2-1 win over Hong Kong on Sept. 24, 2021 at thr JAR Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Philippines just needed at least a draw to qualify to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

Tahnai Annis put the Malditas up ahead early on with a goal in the 17th minute.

Chung Pui Ki scored the equalizer in the 61st minute with a free kick just outside the box.

Chandler McDaniel made the timely match-clinching goal in the 87th minute to give the Philippines the victory.

“We are truly delighted by this remarkable achievement by our Philippine Women’s National Team,” said Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president Mariano Araneta in a report posted at the PFF website.

The Philippines, however, won’t stop at Asian level but eyes a spot in the 2023 World Cup.

“Qualification to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup is a testament to the hard work and sacrifice made by the players and the coaching staff, and the support of sponsors and stakeholders. But we cannot rest on this achievement. We will leave no stone unturned in preparing the team for the 2022 AFC Women’s World Cup 2023,” said Araneta.
