THE Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) asked the Catmon Municipal Government on Monday, September 27, to temporarily declare the Tinubdan Falls in Barangay Tabili off limits to tourists.

This recommendation came after Sunday’s (September 26) incident, wherein three swimmers were swept by rushing waters at the Tinubdan Falls following heavy downpour that caused flooding in the area.

Two of the three swimmers -- Kent Jude Monterola, 17, and Princess Alastra, 7 -- were found dead, while rescuers are still looking for the third victim, Jacel Alastra, 32, mother of Princess.

Police Colonel Engelbert Soriano of the CPPO said they will assign personnel at the Tinubdan Falls to make sure that no one will go there to swim.

He said they will also put up signages prohibiting swimming at the Tinubdan Falls, especially that it is still rainy season.

Weather forecasters earlier announced that La Niña will start in October. This means that there will be above normal rainfall conditions in the country. (AYB/LMY)
