TO ENCOURAGE city government employees to stay fit, the Mandaue City Sports Commission has encouraged them to use its newly opened fitness gym located at the back of Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

City Hall workers can use the facility without charge, but only those who are fully vaccinated or those who have received their first dose.

The fitness gym was officially opened on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021. The ceremony was led by Mayor Jonas Cortes, and attended by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede and the city councilors.

Jun Dela Paz, head of the city’s sports commission, said they only allow vaccinated employees to use the fitness gym to prevent transmission of Covid-19.

He said the gym instructors who will be deployed are also fully vaccinated.

Dela Paz said that 90 percent of the city government personnel are vaccinated.

The city government workers who are given priority are the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRMO) personnel, emergency responders and rescuers to help them in their strength training.

Considering that almost all of the City Hall employees are exposed to public transactions, Dela Paz said having proper exercise by using the newly opened fitness gym would help them become more healthy.

The first month of the gym’s operation is exclusive for the city workers, Dela Paz said.

The gym will be opened to the public once an ordinance for its paid operation and membership guidelines will be formulated and passed by the City Council.

Dela Paz said they will only allow eight persons at a time to avoid crowding in the gym.

Gym users are allowed not to wear masks as long as they are observing a safe distance from each other; however, instructors are not allowed to take off their masks.

Upon entry in the gym, employees must present their ID and vaccination card, Dela Paz said.

The gym liaison officer will conduct a temperature check, sanitize the hands of the gym users and log in their attendance for contact tracing purposes. (KFD)
