INCUMBENT Mayor Rex Jalandoon of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental confirmed Monday, September 27, that former mayor Demi Honrado has bolted out from their party and will run against him in the coming May 9, 2022 elections.
Jalandoon, though, said he has the support of Fourth District Representative Juliet Marie Ferrer and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, as well as those of incumbent city officials.
Honrado is currently the eighth councilor of the city and has served as the chief of staff of Ferrer when he was still a congressman of the fourth district.
Jalandoon said he was surprised by the decision of Honrado, and that they do not know yet who will be included in the latter's line-up.
Jalandoon said they already have the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (Cona) from the United Negros Alliance (Unega) and that they do not know where Honrado would get his as the councilor is also a member of the United Negros Alliance (Unega).
When asked for his comment, Ferrer said the rule on the equity of the incumbent will be applied in the city and that they respect the decision of Honrado.
Honrado could not be reached for comment as of Monday, September 27.
Jalandoon said he already has a complete line-up with incumbent Vice Mayor David Baga Jr. as his running mate.
The incumbent city councilors under his slate are Baste Benedicto, Ledoy Miravalles, Ciriaco Sia, Manuel Badillo, Don Jeffrey Emboltorio, Julius Asistio and Penny Jalandoni with the inclusion of newbies, namely, Barangay 1 Punong Barangay Jojo Jalandoni, Barangay RSB Punong Barangay Potot Aries and Kagawad Stephen Simbit.
