Vega to serve as new PRO 7 chief; Montejo to retire

THE Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) has a new director.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, Police Brigadier General Roque Eduardo Dela Peña Vega will serve as PRO 7’s new director, replacing PBGen. Ronnie Montejo who will be retiring from the police service.

Before becoming PRO 7 director, Vega served as deputy comptroller at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame.

Vega is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1991.

In a separate interview, Montejo said despite serving as PRO 7 director for 10 months, he was able to make a significant dent on the illegal drug trade in the region.

After Montejo assumed as PRO 7 on Dec. 1, 2020, he initiated non-stop anti-illegal drug operations across the region which resulted in the confiscation of 75,756 grams of suspected shabu worth more than P515 million; 388,807 grams of marijuana worth P46.6 million; and 20,878 Nubain ampoules worth P5.2 million.

Within 10 months, Montejo has led the conduct of 5,279 operations which resulted in the arrest of 6,889 drug personalities, 20 of whom were killed during operations.

Montejo also led the campaign against illegal gambling with over 4,745 police operations conducted resulting in the arrest and prosecution of 11,345 individuals.

Around P1.4 million worth of gambling proceeds were confiscated by police during Montejo’s 10 months in office.

The PRO 7 also made strives in the campaign against loose firearms, conducting 2,169 operations which resulted to the confiscation of 4,926 illegal firearms and the arrest of 814 personalities, 18 of whom were killed in operations. (AYB / JKV)
