THE number of recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine first dose in Cebu City has decreased, said Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, officer in charge of the City Health Department (CHD).

Ibones told reporters on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, that most of the residents who trusted the vaccine’s effectiveness were already vaccinated. The official, however, failed to provide reporters the numbers to back up his claims.

Unvaccinated individuals, he said, remain undecided or do not want to get vaccinated. The common reasons they cited were caused by fake news that inoculated individuals only have two years to live and they would turn into zombies, and vaccines would only harm them.

Ibones said they are doing their best to convince undecided residents who are eligible for vaccination. Last Sept. 25, the CHD launched its “Toktok Bakuna” campaign. The personnel tagged along with the City personnel distributing financial aid to senior citizens and tried to convince unvaccinated residents, including the elderly, to get their jabs. A total of 100 residents of Barangay Punta Princesa received their first dose, while around 1,000 residents of Barangay Tisa also got their first jabs on the same day.

As of Sept. 27, 338,589 residents were vaccinated for the first dose, while 277,793 were fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Ibones said Cebu City had received a total of 709,000 vaccine doses.

He said the CHD will continue to conduct “Toktok Bakuna’’ in barangays that have a few numbers of vaccinees.

Ibones said they are still in discussion on what incentives would be given to city residents who are already vaccinated.

Last Friday, Ibones confirmed that 8,000 doses of Pfizer arrived in Cebu City. Of the new supplies, 4,000 doses are for the first dose, while the other 4,000 doses are for the second dose. (MVE)
