THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), through the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the National Task Force to Ending the Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac), has launched the “Serbisyong Pang-Gobyerno para sa Patuloy na Kapayapaan at Pag-abante ng Escalante” project in four barangays of Escalante City recently.

The project aims to provide skills training and other livelihood interventions for 99 beneficiaries belonging to marginalized and vulnerable sectors in Barangays Mabini, Libertad, Pinapugasan and Paitan.

Tesda-Negros Occidental Acting Provincial Director Romelia Nuezca, in a statement, said that, for a start, the agency will be providing skills training.

These trainings include Organic Agriculture Production NC II for 25 persons, Carpentry NC II for 25 persons, Masonry NC II for 24 persons, and Service Underchassis Components (Leading to Automotive Servicing NC II) for 25 persons.

The training for Organic Agriculture Production NC II, Carpentry NC II and Masonry NC II will be funded under the agency’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) while the Service Underchassis Components will be under the Special Training for Employment Program, she said.

The scholarship benefits, on the other hand, include free training cost, free assessment, internet allowance, one-year accident insurance, health and personal protective equipment allowance and training support fund of P160 per day.

For his part, Tesda-Western Visayas Director Jerry Tizon urged the beneficiaries to enrich and make use of the opportunity given to them by the government.

“To our partner agencies, let us all continue to work together for the greater good,” Tizon said, stressing that “the next generations deserve a peaceful and progressive nation built by multi-skilled Filipinos.”

“Dahil sa Tesdac Abot Lahat,” he added.

Also present during the launching were 79th Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel J-Jay Javines, Executive Assistant Rolyn Cabus, Barangay Captains John Paul Escala of Mabini, Richardy Pios Sr. of Paitan, Edgar Rapana of Pinapugasan and Neptali Narvasa of Libertad, and representatives from partner agencies like Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Public Employment Services Office and Philippine National Police.

A pledge of support and cooperation was also signed by the partner-government offices as a manifestation of their support to the project.

The villages of Mabini, Libertad, Pinapugasan and Paitan are among the 14 barangays in Escalante cleared of the influence of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.
