FOLLOWING our past column series, we discuss today the interconnections among the historic past, the present and the hopes of humanity in the coming years. We also interrelate our discussion with our continuing series on the question of "What is happening to our World Today?" As with our previous columns, we will likewise relate our discussions with the 10 key factors which this column has offered to answer our basic question of what is happening to our world today.
To recall, we have enumerated the major factors in our series as follows: historicity, different ideologies, significant socio-economic problems, notable socio-political events, various major conflicts in different areas, advances of science and technology, natural environmental disturbances, resurgence of criminality or terrorism, basic principles of management, and the overarching aspects of human behavior and morality.
As we have highlighted in our past issues, these factors are among the most significant events in history from the ancient times to the present. We likewise pointed out that these major factors have interrelated in various ways as we also noted the positive and negative aspects of these historic events in the lives of different peoples of the world.
We are about to conclude our discussion of the last several issues which are the factors of the basic principles of management and the related factors of human behavior with focus on morality. We briefly defined last week our simplified understanding of basic management as the system by which leaders in different nations, whether in the private or public sectors, whether local, national or in the international levels, handle the multifarious activities of the members of their organizations towards the attainment of their goals or objectives. We highlighted at this point that these last two factors in our series have been closely interrelated from the historic past. Hence, our closing column by next week will highlight how human behavior in history, with focus on morality, has been interconnected with the basic principles of management.
We can thus point out, among others, that the history of humanity has been greatly affected by the manner in which leaders throughout history have managed the lives of their many constituents. In some cases, the types of management leadership have varied from different nations in different eras of history.
To briefly highlight these management periods, many writers point out the teachings of the ancient Greeks and the succeeding Roman Empires. Interesting changes also followed with the arrival of the principles introduced during the early Christian periods. This was followed by the medieval eras and succeeded by the historic renaissance which in turn was also followed by the principles introduced by the reformation periods.
The development of basic management principles and political science predominated from these centuries down to the present days. In all these generations, we saw the interplay of basic management beliefs and practices of human behavior with those of morality throughout history.
