New protocols eyed in Cebu City amid quarantine classification

CEBU City Acting Mayor Michael Rama said he is set to conduct a focus group discussion with experts and leaders of various sectors in the city on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, to discuss and craft a new executive order that will be implemented in the city.

This will be done in anticipation of the announcement of the city’s next quarantine classification starting on Oct. 1. Cebu City is under general community quarantine from Sept. 8 to 30.

Rama’s latest executive order, issued last Sept. 7, will expire on Sept. 30.

Rama said he is not yet “expecting” that Cebu City would be placed under modified general community quarantine, which imposes less restrictions.

He urged Cebuanos to still observe minimum health protocols and not be complacent.

Rama also said he has yet to decide whether to retain the vaccination bubble measure of the City or not by October.

His decision will depend on the discussion Thursday.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche and retired military general Mel Feliciano are expected to join the discussions Thursday.

Loreche is the spokesperson of the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center and chief pathologist of the Department of Health 7, while Feliciano serves as the Visayas Inter-Agency Task Force chief implementer.

Cebu City’s Covid-19 cases have declined during the past days based on the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) data. As of Sept. 28, the city’s active Covid-19 cases were only at 707.
