Manning agencies reminded to report deployment of seafarers

THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Saturday, October 2, 2021, reminded licensed manning agencies (LMAs) to report information on seafarers they have deployed and exited via local seaports.

Based on Advisory No. 131 - 2021, the POEA said all LMAs must regularly submit reports on their deployed seafarers.

For those deployed in 2021, the POEA said LMAs should submit before October 15 information on those deployed from January 1 to August 31, before October 29 for those deployed in September, before November 12 for those deployed in October, before December 17 for those deployed in November, and before January 14 for those deployed in December.

"Thereafter, LMAs are expected to submit their reports for the preceding month on or before the 15th day of the succeeding month," said the POEA.

It said the accurate reports are necessary in order to properly account for the sea-based overseas Filipino workers deployed.

"The Administration strongly emphasizes that the submission of the said information remains a crucial component in the finalization of deployment figures since seafarers, who have departed through local seaports, are not accounted for in the figures captured by the Bureau of Immigration (BI)," said the POEA.

Reports shall be submitted to the Sea-based Employment Accreditation and Contracts Processing Center located at the Mezzanine Floor of the Blas F. Ople Building in Mandaluyong City.

To note, Filipinos comprise a third of the world's seafarer population. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
