THE Department of Agriculture-Zamboanga Peninsula has conducted a week-long blood sample collection in six municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur.

Rad Donn Cedeño said that the activity is part of the agency’s animal disease monitoring and surveillance strategies in the early detection of Avian Influenza (AI), Food and Mouth Disease (FMD), Classical Swine Fever (CSF), and Contagious Bovine Pleuro Pnuemoniae (CBPP) in the region.

The blood collection from Monday, September 27, 2021 until Friday, October 1, 2021 was conducted in the municipalities of Lapuyan, Margosatubig, Lakewood, Tabina, San Pablo, and Tigbao, in Zamboanga del Sur.

Cedeño said that Zamboanga Peninsula maintains the FMD-free status.

Meanwhile, he said that activities had been lined up for the observance of the Animal Welfare Week from October 4 until October 8, 2021.

He added that the observance of the Animal Welfare Week is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 715 Series of 2004.

The DA-Zamboanga Peninsula will also join the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month 2021 this October with the theme: “Digital Consumers: The New Normal.”

As this develop, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) enjoins the public to participate in the virtual activities this month, as they continue to increase the spread of government’s consumer protection programs, and other consumer knowledge in today's heightened utilization of electronic commerce.
