THE Angeles City Government is set to provide cash aid to 2,361 indigent persons with disabilities (PWDs) in October 2021.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has allotted P2.5 million under Supplemental Budget (SB) No. 2 for the social amelioration assistance.

“Isa po ang komunidad ng PWDs sa ating tinututukan. Kaya naman po nagpapasalamat po ako sa Sangguniang Panlungsod sa pangunguna ni Vice Mayor Vicenta 'Vicky' Vega-Cabigting sa pagsuporta sa ating hangarin na maseguro ang kapakanan ng ating mga PWDs,” Lazatin said.

The 139 bedridden PWDs, who were visited in August via house-to-house for their Covid-19 vaccines already received their P1,000 cash aid, amounting to P139,000. This fund is from the P2.5 million fund filed by Lazatin under SB No. 2.

Further, the remaining P2.3 million will be utilized for the 2,361 indigent PWDs.

Alma Vital, Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office head, said, “We are very thankful to our Mayor Lazatin for the love, care, support and to the attainment of accessible and PWD-friendly Office, and the continuous support to the PWD sector.”

“For our fellow PWDs, on behalf of our city mayor, we encourage you to be part of our community to show up and not to be ashamed of what and who you are because we can do, what others can do too, in our own different ways,” she added.

The welfare of the PWDs has been one of the priority programs of Lazatin.

It can be recalled that Lazatin has been promoting PWD-friendly premises in the city hall by putting up necessary structures like an elevator and ramps.

Lazatin also instructed the City Engineering Office and the Business Permit and Licensing Division to inspect the accessibility of establishments for PWDs.

To remind them that they are part of the community and will never be left behind, inset and sign language were included in the City Government’s official news broadcasts.

Amid the lockdown, P5 million was allotted to distribute P1,000 cash assistance to 5,000 registered PWDs.
