AFTER tropical depression “Lannie” placed Cebu under signal no. 1, the Coast Guard (CG) Station Central Cebu announced that it will temporarily suspend sea trips for all types of vessels plying the areas of Cebu Province to avoid maritime accidents effective 5 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021.

“Voyage of vessels will resume upon the improvement of weather and sea condition in (these) areas,” said CG Central Cebu Commander Alvin Dagalea in a notice to mariners.

He also said that vessels that intend to take shelter will be permitted as long as it has a written request and no passenger is allowed onboard.

In its latest weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that Lannie is now over the Olango Channel and heading toward Central Cebu.

Lannie’s intensity is characterized by maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and a central pressure of 1004 hPa. It is moving westward at 20 km/h. (NRC)
