Magramo vs. Raquinel for vacant OPBF flyweight belt

ONE-TIME world title challenger Giemel Magramo takes on fellow hard-hitter Jayr Raquinel for the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight belt on Oct. 23, 2021 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City, Metro Manila.

The 27-year-old Magramo hasn’t for close to a year, since his eighth round knockout loss to Junto Nakatani for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) in Tokyo, Japan.

Despite the loss, Magramo is still highly-ranked No. 8 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) and No. 12 in the WBO.

Raquinel, in the meantime, won back-to-back fights against former world title challenger Takuya Kogawa and Jack Amisa, who he both knocked out. However, Raquinel has not fought in close to two years.

Raquinel is still world-rated, a spot ahead of Magramo at No. 7 in the WBC.

The winner of this fight will most likely move up in rank and will be in a better position to challenge WBC flyweight king Julio Cesar Martinez.

Magramo is 24-2 with 20 knockouts, while Raquinel is 12-1-1 with nine knockouts.

On the other hand, Arvin Magramo (12-1-1, 8 KOs) takes on Jerry Francisco (9-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant WBO Oriental light flyweight belt in the main supporting bout.

Former world title contender Juan Miguel Elorde (28-2, 15 KOs), the grandson of the late great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, makes his ring return after a fourth round stoppage to Emanuel Navarrete in a WBO super bantamweight title fight in 2019. He’ll take on Aroel Romasasa (11-9, 5 KOs) in a six rounder.

In the undercard, three-time world title challenger Jonathan Taconing (28-4-1, 22 KOs) trades leathers with battle-scarred veteran Albert Alcoy (15-28-8, 5 KOs), Wilbert Berondo (14-5-2, 6 KOs) slugs it out with Philip Luis Cuerdo (11-9-1, 4 KOs), Diomel Diocos (14-6-3, 4 KOs) is up against Fernan Agencia (5-1, 2 KOs), Daniel Nicolas (2-0, 2 KOs) faces off with Fernando Tagpuno Jr. (0-1).
