SAN Carlos through the City Environment Management Office (Cemo) conducted its evaluation of the 18 barangays for the Localized Barangay Seal of Good Environmental Governance Year II from October 4 to 8, 2021, a press release from the City Government said.

It added that all the participating barangays in bronze ranks were evaluated by Olive Seruelo, information officer of the Provincial Environment Management Office (Pemo), Ma. Theresa Robles Information Officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR - Penro) and Roeder Amigable, zoning officer II of City Planning and Development Coordinating Office.

The evaluation is based on three criteria, which include solid waste management, greening program and law enforcement on coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The barangays will be upgraded to silver if they reached the passing score while those that failed to pass will stay in their current ranks.

Seruelo said she has been evaluating the barangays for the program for years already and saw the improvement in the implementation in the environmental governance.

She lauded the efforts of the baranggau heads in embracing the localized environmental programs that helped change the unhealthy lifestyle of the people.

Engineer Arthur Batamalaque, senior environment management specialist of Cemo, said the participation of the barangays is proof that the unity between the LGU and the barangays enables the city to strive to reach the top.

Danille Mario Osorio, local government operations officer of the Department of Interior and Local Government, who also assisted in the evaluation, said that the environment is one of the aspects of the City that has always excelled. She stressed that she wants to see the city stay on top with the help of the barangays thru their sustainable best practices.

Osorio also encouraged the barangays to have their establishment safety sealed as proof that they are following the Covid-19 health protocol.

The punong barangays and kagawads also showed their support and expressed their commitment to the suggestions and recommendations of the evaluating team (PR)
