Dole awards P500,000 livelihood assistance to farmers in Tabuelan

THE Department of Labor and Employment Region (Dole) Central Visayas awarded the Kabuhayan grant of P500,000 to the Small Coconut Farmers and Farm Workers Association of Maravilla, Tabuelan, Cebu.

The said livelihood grant provides a working capital to support the association’s cattle fattening project with 15 heads of cattle as a starter, said Dole Central Visayas director Salome O. Siaton.

Aside from this project, the association is also engaged in cattle dispersal, goat raising, and free-range chickens. The cattle fattening project was chosen because of the sufficiency of resources and guaranteed market.

This endeavor is made possible through the Dole Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) under its Kabuhayan program component, which is the Department's contribution to the government agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and poverty reduction.

The Kabuhayan Program or the Dole Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) provides grant assistance for livelihood and entrepreneurial ventures for vulnerable and marginalized workers. The organization was able to receive the said amount as it is the maximum amount allocated for livelihood grants that fall under the Small Livelihood category.

Cebu Provincial Field Office officer-in-charge Vivencio Lagahid and DILP Focal and Senior Labor and Employment officer Seymoun Hamoy facilitated the grant of the award with grantee association president Amelita Jugan and its PRO, Angeli Tores.

Jugan said that they are grateful to Dole Central Visayas for providing additional income to their members. (PR)
