Iloilo City to allow cemetery visits October 30 to November 2, but with limitations

THE Iloilo City Government will allow cemetery visitation from October 30 to November 2, 2021, to give relatives of the deceased a chance to visit their graves during the pandemic.

Jeck Conlu, department head from the Public Safety Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), said these visits will have limitations.

During the online press conference on the implementation of protocols and guidelines for the conduct of "Piesta Minatay," Conlu said the Iloilo City Covid team have recommended guidelines regarding protocols for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

Conlu said Mayor Jarry Treñas and the Covid team allowed the visitation of relatives to the cemetery for the following reasons because the city is now under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions.

Only fully vaccinate persons are allowed to visit cemeteries. They must also bring their vaccination card and identification card.

Eating, gambling and drinking alcoholic beverages are prohibited during the visit to discourage visitors to stay longer, Conlu said.

Conlu added his teams are now doing the inventory of all cemeteries to accommodate only 50 percent of their capacity.

"Only 50 percent of the capacity of the cemetery based, private or public, are allowed," Conlu said.

He added that there is an ongoing vaccination being conducted by the City Government which will help those unvaccinated to visit their loved ones in the cemetery when vaccinated.

He encourages unvaccinated individuals to visit the vaccination area.

Cemeteries will be secured by the City Government, Philippine National Police, PSTMO, compliance team, and management of private cemeteries.

Conlu also encouraged visitors to limit their stay in the cemetery to avoid Covid-19 transmission or infection.

Other guidelines for the ambulant vendors near the cemeteries are being studied, according to Conlu.

In 2020, all cemeteries were closed amid the height of the pandemic. (SunStar Philippines)
