DUE to landslides in the area, the Talisay City Government has temporarily closed off the Talisay-Toledo Wharf Access Road, better known as Manipis Road, to leisure bikers.
Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas announced that the road closure was agreed upon by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA).
“The bad news: It was agreed by DPWH, DRRMO and our CT-TODA that we will temporary prohibit leisure biking at the Talisay-Toledo Wharf Access Road for the meantime,” Gullas said.
He feared more landslides may occur anytime due to continuous rains in the past days.
Earlier on Saturday night, Oct. 2, 2021, a landslide in Sitio Bogo, Barangay Camp 4 rendered Manipis Road impassable.
A clearing operation has been undertaken and the road is now open to vehicles.
“I hope people will understand. I know a lot of you (bikers) would like to go back to Manipis to enjoy the scenery and the fresh air. But I don’t like to put your lives at risk,” Gullas said in a mix of Cebuano and English.
The Talisay City Government promised to announce the reopening of Manipis Road for leisure bikers as soon as it is possible.
