SENATOR Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan on Friday, October 8, 2021, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice president in the May 2022 elections and announced that he has accepted the offer of Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo to be her runningmate.

Pangilinan filed his COC under the banner of the Liberal Party (LP) on the last day of the COC filing period at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent in Pasay City.

He was accompanied by Robredo, who filed her COC for president on Thursday, October 7.

Robredo, who filed as an independent, explained that she wanted to remain open to possible alliances with candidates from other parties.

Pangilinan was earlier included in LP's initial list of senatorial bets.

In the September 6 to September 11, 2021 Pulse Asia survey, Pangilinan ranked 15th among preferred senatorial bets with 26.8 percent. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
