THE suspect in the brutal killing of a public school teacher in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental Tuesday, October 6, 2021, was arrested in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City around 1:30 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2021.

Delleon del Rosario, 39, of Barangay 8, Bacolod City was arrested by Station 8 policemen on information from Cadiz City police that he could be hiding in the house of his live-in partner, whose name was not disclosed, at Calong-Calong Street.

He is the suspect in the killing of Jessica Ducay, 28, a senior high school teacher of the Dr.Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial High School.

Ducay was alone in her house in Barangay Banquerohan past 7 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect barged in, stabbed and hit her with hammers.

He fled from the crime scene bringing with him Ducay’s P79,000 in cash while leaving behind the weapons he used in killing the teacher.

Police Major Joery Puerto, commander of Police Station 8, said the suspect was supposed to surrender on Thursday, October 7.

When he did not show up, they decided to arrest him instead, Puerto said.

Puerto said del Rosario was working as a construction worker in the house of the victim’s uncle who is living adjacent to her house.

Del Rosario told police that it was his birthday on Wednesday and he had no money.

He then decided to ransack the house of Ducay, but the latter saw him, prompting him to stab and kill her.

The police failed to recover the money from del Rosario, who admitted that he only spent P9,000 from the total money he stole from Ducay.

Del Rosario was already endorsed to Cadiz City Police Station for the filing of robbery with homicide charges against him.

Earlier, the family of Ducay offered a P50,000 reward for his swift arrest after the Cadiz City Police Station failed to capture him during the conduct of their manhunt operation.
