SOME 141 beneficiaries from four barangays in La Castellana town, Negros Occidental have received emergency employment assistance recently.

The aid was distributed through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program (Tupad) of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) through the effort of Fifth District Representative Ma. Lourdes "Marilou" Arroyo.

The payout ceremony was also attended by La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan on Thursday, October 7.

The beneficiaries are from Barangays Cabagna-an, Mansalanao, Nato, and Robles who each received P3,950 as assistance from their 10-day employment under Tupad.

Aside from the distribution of assistance, Arroyo also donated personal protective equipment (PPE), face shields and face masks to frontliners assigned at La Castellana Municipal Health Center.

“For the past days, our province has been experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases. It is important that while we take actions to stop the spread of the virus, our frontliners are equipped with protective gears to shield themselves from the virus as they carry on with their duties,” Arroyo said.

This is not the first time that the lawmaker provided assistance to her district to combat Covid-19.

Since the start of the implementation of community quarantine, Arroyo has been providing food packs, PPE and financial assistance to the constituents in Fifth District.

The senior citizens of the town also celebrated the Senior Citizen Elderly Filipino Week with Arroyo and Nicor-Mangilimutan.

During the event, Arroyo acknowledged the significant role of senior citizens in the community.

She also encouraged all sectors to work together so that none of the elderly will be left behind given the prevailing threat of Covid-19.

“Our senior citizen population is one of the most vulnerable sectors in this pandemic,” she said.

“This celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week should serve as a reminder of our duties and responsibilities to support the elderly and create a more inclusive community that is fitting for their contribution to our nation,” the official added.

The celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week is celebrated every first week of October per Proclamation No. 470.
