MAJOR General Alfredo Rosario, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), has commended the Joint Task Force (JTF)-Basilan troops for the successful implementation of the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) program in Basilan province.

Rosario noted that the JTF-Basilan has collected 244 loose firearms in Basilan through the implementation of the SALW program, with the full support of all government officials in two cities and 11 towns of Basilan province.

The SALW program seeks to reduce, if not eradicate, small arms and light weapons and prevent crimes in the communities.

The implementation of the SALW program is an initiative of the national government through the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and Joint Normalization Committee.

At the same time, Rosario noted that the JTF-Basilan has degraded the capability of the Abu Sayyaf Group to sow terror in Basilan.

“For that, I commend our dedicated and gallant officers and soldiers of JTF-Basilan and 101st Infantry Brigade for a job well-done,” Rosario said.

He also lauded the commitment of the soldiers to sustain the momentum, win peace and protect the province from becoming a haven of the terrorists again.

He also reminded the troops to strictly adhere to the Inter-Agency Task Force guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Basilan province.

Rosario visited Thursday, October 7, the troops of the JTF-Basilan at the unit’s headquarters in Barangay Tabiawan, Isabela City, Basilan province’s capital.

He was given a briefing by Brigadier General Domingo Gobway, the concurrent Commander of JTF-Basilan and 101st Infantry Brigade, on the current thrust and accomplishments of the command.

He also took time to pay a courtesy call on Basilan Governor Hadjiman Hataman-Salliman at the provincial capitol. (SunStar Zamboanga)
