DSWD gives over P7M of social pension in Dumaguete

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Dumaguete City distributed P7,665,000 worth of social pension to 2,555 senior citizens in 30 barangays in the city.

Each recipient received P3,000, representing their social pension for the second semester of this year covering the months from July to December.

Social pensioners are entitled to a P500 monthly assistance.

It is distributed on a semestral basis at P3,000 per semester or for six months.

The social pension of the elderly was distributed through the DSWD.

DSWD informed Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo that qualified social pensioners in the city were selected by the DSWD regional office.

Under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, senior citizens with no permanent sources of income or financial assistance and those who do not receive financial support from their families and relatives may qualify for the assistance.

Senior citizens who are frail, sickly, and do not receive pension from Social Security System, Government Security Insurance System, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Armed Forces or Police Mutual Benefit Association may also qualify for the grant.

The organizers of the payout of the social pension with the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs enforced the local health protocols to prevent any transmission of Covid-19. (PIA)
