THE members of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) in Bacolod City have recommended Marlon Solidum to occupy the vacant post of the late councilor Elmer Sy.

Solidum, a member of NPC and local party Grupo Progreso, said Monday, October 11, that they are only waiting for the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte so he can assume office as a city councilor.

He said the eight members of the NPC held a meeting last month and he was informed that he was recommended to occupy the post vacated by Sy.

He added that the recommendation was already forwarded to the NPC national office. It will then be forwarded to the Office of the President.

On June 17, 2021, Sy, 65, a member of NPC, died due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran earlier said it is the political party of Sy who will nominate and decide as to who will replace him.

The Bacolod City Council also earlier approved a resolution asking guidance from the legal department of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on how to fill the vacant post of Sy.

Councilor Renecito Novero, majority floor leader, said they asked the legal department of the DILG to guide them on how to fill the post of Sy or the proper application of Section 45 of the Local Government Code.

Once it will be approved, Solidum said that he will do his job to serve the people of Bacolod.

Solidum is also running as councilor in the May 2022 elections.
