DepEd-Davao hopeful 18 schools will pass assessment for F2F classes

THE Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao is hoping that the 18 Davao Region schools they recommended for the pilot testing of the limited face-to-face classes will be included in the final list from the national office.

It can be recalled that the education department announced on October 5 and 6 that it has selected 59 schools nationwide for the pilot implementation of the limited face-to-face classes, which are set November 15, 2021 to January 31, 2022.

These schools have already passed the stringent process and assessment with the help of health officials.

DepEd-Davao spokesperson Jenelito “Dodong” Atillo clarified Monday, October 11, in an interview with SunStar Davao that the 59 schools released by the department is just the first batch from the 100 schools targeted to be the pilot implementing schools.

“The list that was released last October 5 and 6 was just an initial list. We are still expecting another list to complete the 100 public schools target of DepEd and Department of Health,” he said.

He also said that it is also possible that not all of the 18 schools in the region can participate in the pilot testing if the Covid-19 situation worsens.

He emphasized that the pilot testing is also dependent on the local government unit’s health and community quarantine classifications.

“The LGUs (local government units) community quarantine classifications change every 15 or 30 days, so we are at the mercy of the Covid-19 situation, so we can’t really fully say that the total number of schools recommended will be final. If the LGU’s Covid-19 cases rise, probably that school where it is located will automatically be erased from the list,” Atillo said.

Atillo also shared that the Davao City’s identified five schools for face-to-face classes are excluded from the 18 schools initially identified by the region.

“Davao City schools nga gi-recommend sa LGU, dili pa to sila maapil sa first phase sa pilot implementation sa face-to-face kay wala man sila gud naapil sa unang 18 schools nga dugay nang na-shortlist. Kung makapasar sa validation nga himuon sa DepEd ug DoH lagmit maapil na sa 2nd batch (The five schools that were recommended by Davao City may not be included in the pilot implementation of the face-to-face classes because they were not part of the initial 18 that were listed. However, if they pass DepEd and DOH validation, they may be included in the second batch),” Atillo said.

The five schools Davao City has tagged for F2F are Dalagdag National High School, G. Tajo National High School, Saloy National High School, Mabuhay Elementary School and Gumitan Elementary School.

The national office of DepEd said they will come up with another list of schools approved ready for the resumption of F2F. (Jeepy P. Compio)
