Dynamic Herb Cebu FC ready for 2021 PFL season

EXPECT Dynamic Herb Cebu FC to be in peak form and ready to compete if ever the Philippines Football League (PFL) pushes through with its plan to kick off the 2021 season on Oct. 27, 2021 at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

“So far, so good. The players are peaking and we’re almost at 90 percent,” Dynamic Herb Cebu FC head coach Oliver Colina told SunStar Cebu.

The PFL recently announced that the 2021 season will start later this month. But that still depends on the quarantine status of Carmona, Cavite and a minimum of six participating teams. Carmona is in Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) status up until Oct. 15. The status could remain the same or could be downgraded to General Community Quarantine (GCQ), which will allow sporting activities.

The Cebu-based club, owned by Turkish businessman Ugur Tasci, is the newest addition to the PFL. It will join defending titleholder United Clark FC, runner-up Kaya FC-Iloilo, Maharlika Manila FC, Stallion Laguna FC, Mendiola FC 1991 and Azkals Development Team for a total of six participating clubs.

Dynamic Herb Cebu FC is still finalizing its roster but nothing has changed yet and there are no new additions.

“We are finalizing the roster. The deadline is still on Friday,” said Colina, who’ll be mentoring the team along with Alex Ballesteros, Roseton Bariñan and Ref Cuaresma.

Dynamic Herb Cebu FC is composed mostly of homegrown talent mixed with some veteran PFL players. Some of the notable pro players in the club are former Kaya FC goalkeeper Nathaniel Ace Villanueva, ex-Stallion FC midfielder Daniel Gadia, former Stallion FC defender Nicolas Ferrer, ex-JPV Marikina FC forward Julian Miranda and former Global Cebu FC midfielder John Roy Melgo.

Some local standouts from Leylam FC are also in the club the likes of Gamal Al-Mesbahi, Emmanuel Andrew, Ranulfo Colina, Marius Kore, Ruffy Llorente, Michael Pacite, Mohamed Soumah, Baris Taci and Evren Tasci. The team is also fielding some young talents like Yogi Selman, Lorenzo Genco, Keenan Cergneux, UAAP MVP Kintaro Miyagi and Jack Zambrano.

Also listed in the roster are DLSU player Mauro Acot, Ren Okuda, former Cesafi MVP Steven Patalinghug and former Azkals Youth player Jaime Rosquillo.

“Our chemistry is better. I can have different combinations of players. Now, we train in the morning and afternoon. Mornings are more on strength and conditioning, while afternoon is more tactical,” said Colina, who previously coached Kaya FC-Iloilo.

Though just a newbie in the pro ranks, Dynamic Herb Cebu FC doesn’t lack confidence and is raring to go against the country’s best. (EKA)
