THE City Government of Bacolod will purchase at least 12 new vehicles for the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said Tuesday, October 12, that the budget will be taken from the city's general funds.

He said the new vehicles are expected to be delivered in December this year and will be distributed to various police stations in the city.

He added that most of the service vehicles of BCPO, including those in 10 police stations, were already defective.

The vice mayor said the vehicles will be used for the anti-criminality campaign and in maintaining the peace and order in the city.

"Our police need vehicle so they can respond immediately to the crime incidents. They should perform well to maintain the peace and order," Familiaran said.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier assured Philippine National (PNP) Chief Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar that the City Government will continue to support the local police.

Leonardia earlier said he discussed with Eleazar the need for police visibility in Bacolod, especially at this time of the pandemic.

He said police visibility is very important, especially that there is still a surge in Covid-19 cases.

"We need to strictly implement basic health protocols here," the mayor added.
