AN EARLY morning fire has engulfed a canter truck, burning a helper to death and injuring the driver in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental Tuesday, October 12.

As of Tuesday evening, the fatality was only identified as a certain Romnick, 20, of Sagay City, said Fire Officer 1 Gerald Bugtong, arson investigator of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the city.

Bugtong said the driver of the truck, John Vincent Recto, 25, of Escalante City, sustained second and third degree burns.

Recto was rushed to the Cadiz Emergency Clinic where he is now recuperating.

Initial investigation showed that before it caught fire, the truck fell on its side after hitting the steel barriers beside the road while traversing the highway near the Umapon Bridge.

Bugtong said the fire easily gutted the truck as it was loaded with about a hundred containers of gasoline.

The truck owned by Jun Isobal was on its way to Sagay City from Bacolod City when the incident happened.

The damage in the fire was pegged at P370,000, the BFP reported.
