HAU to hold necrological service for Dr. Calingo on October 15

ANGELES CITY -- Holy Angel University (HAU) will hold a necrological service for its president, Dr. Luis Maria R. Calingo, on October 15 starting with a mass at 9 a.m.

Archbishop Emeritus Most Rev. Paciano B. Aniceto, who is also the vice chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees, will celebrate the mass at the HAU Chapel of the Holy Guardian Angel.

The mass is the last of the nine consecutive requiem masses held at the said chapel, one of which will be celebrated by the Archbishop of San Fernando, Most Rev. Florentino Lavarias, who is an alumnus of the university.

Calingo passed away on October 1, the eve of the feast of the university’s patron saint, the Holy Guardian Angels. His remains lie in state in Santa Cruz, Ca. until the funeral mass that is also scheduled on October 15 (Pacific Standard Time).

Calingo, as the ninth HAU President, steered the University through some of its most challenging periods, including the pandemic and the transition to K-12.

He raised the university’s quality assurance levels to international standards and introduced innovative programs like Masters in Cybersecurity, Green MBA and Big History, and acquired a citation, accreditation, or certification from ISO, Character.Org, Cardinal Newman Society, Asean

University Network-Quality Assurance, Accreditation Commission on Programs in Hospitality Administration, Philippine Quality Award, Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities, Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation and the People Management Association of the Philippines that named HAU the Employer of the Year for Luzon.

Calingo raised employee morale by initiating catastrophic leaves and forgivable loans, preventing layoffs during the pandemic and transition to K-12, and cutting down period for CBA negotiations. His pro-student efforts defined the theme of his presidency: “It’s all about students.”

The necrological service, which will feature live proceedings and recorded messages, will be live-streamed on HAU’s official Facebook and YouTube accounts. (PR)
